I have been in the martial arts for many years now and one of my funniest things to see is someone who just got into it and thinks that they are already a pro. Unfortunately, often times these people run right out and start teaching other people. You can always tell these martial arts supergoobers, because even though they are as American as apple pie and have never even been to any other country, they suddenly sound an awful lot like Confucius. If you are looking into learning the martial arts and you find an American instructor sounding like an old Bruce Lee movie and answering all of your questions with some cryptic mumbo jumbo that never actually answers your question, get out of there. You have not found an instructor that has achieved some kind of enlightenment through years of martial arts training, you have found an idiot that got his training from watching Jet Li movies and thinking he can do that too. And when he goes to demonstrate his prowess and you accidentally hit him, don’t worry, you didn’t do it wrong, he did.
